LimitList: FAQ

OK, how do I use the LimitList app?

You setup a list of songs that could be played during your event—the Playables—and then you press play. (If you want to get extra fancy, you can first label your playables in Advanced mode to have greater control over the music flow.)

The first song begins, and then a few other song names magically appear on-screen. Anytime during your event, guests can stroll up and vote on the song they want to hear next.

When someone votes, the iPad snaps a photo! (The guest can retake or clear the picture, if they don’t like it.) All the photos are displayed in a slideshow during your event (and saved on the iPad too), leaving you with lots and lots of great pictures to keep forever!

How many pictures does LimitList take?

One for every vote. Before LimitList made its public debut, we had it playing at an event for about 70 people. At this event there was a vote—and a picture taken—every thirty seconds for four straight hours, on average. So, to answer the question: lots!

Can the photobooth feature be turned off?

Yup, PictoVote can be turned off easily in the settings.

What about the voting—can it be turned off?

Voting is great, but you may just want to have a simple playlist for portions of your event. For example, a cocktail hour at your wedding. LimitList lets you have it both ways. If you don’t want voting, you can just switch it off. The playlist will then either be shuffled, played in a specific order, or a combination. (Yup, even a shuffled/ordered combination, if you like! It’s pretty cool.)

OK. How can I get guests voting as much as possible?

Just like a great DJ knows how to pick great songs, a LimitList playlist needs a variety of songs that people know and like. Choosing music for your event is about balancing the feel of the event, the music you love, and the songs that’ll connect with your guests.

What happens if no one votes?

If a song finishes and no one has voted for the next song, that next song is simply chosen at random. No votes, no problem!

Wouldn’t it be more convenient if guests could vote from their own devices?

Convenient? Maybe. Fun? No, we don’t think so. Getting people up, physically together, having fun in a shared space—that’s the kind of event we’d want to attend. An event where everyone is just buried in their own phones doesn’t seem that fun to us!

Can I stream a song from the internet?

LimitList pulls songs directly from your device, such as iTunes downloads or music loaded from CDs. LimitList doesn’t offer streaming, because it was designed for events where you want dependable music, and where interruptions to the music are just not going to work. In fact, you don’t even need a WiFi connection! If the songs are on your iPad, the LimitList app is good to go.

Does LimitList have a built-in flash for evening events?

No, LimitList doesn’t have its own flash. A constantly flashing iPad can be a distraction for your guests, so we’d recommend first testing LimitList under similar lighting conditions to see if some extra lighting is even needed. If so, a simple table lamp beside the iPad can do the trick!

I have a suggestion for the app, or a question about how to use it. Who should I contact?

Us! And please do, we’d love to hear from you. You can send us a note directly from this page using the contact form.
